Teagan’s Blood by L.H. Cosway

This book was better than I thought it would be. I had never read a book by this author, plus it is a British novel so I was a little nervous. It was not disappointing though.

Teagan was slightly annoying at times with the decisions that she made. They seemed like horrible ones, but it wasn’t too bad. Also I skimmed the parts where she was freaking out that vampires were real because it annoys me. I really liked the character growth and development in this book. I think several characters grow a lot from when you first meet them. The relationships all seem to make a lot of progress, which I liked.

The guy was good. Every time he talked I kept thinking of him looking like Eric from TruBlood since he owned a night club. I really liked he was so protective of her it was cute. There were some fun confrontations between him and other people that were entertaining which was fun.

The plot was good. It was definitely set up for a sequel. I actually liked that she made her own decisions *****spoiler ahead****** and left. However, I think she should have gone farther. Also the map was very confusing because she said she went across the world or halfway across the world and was in England, so was she supposed to be in America or Australia? I was just very confused because I was basing the location off of language clues and the money that she used since they never say where she is, but maybe I am wrong? I just had to disregard the location because it was so unclear and confusing.

Overall I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

What I Read This Weekend…Her Best Shot by Shannyn Schroeder

Her Best Shot by Shannyn Schroeder Review

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

3 stars

This is the first book in a series serial. Each book is a serial/novella, but deals with one of three friends around spring break before they all graduate. All the girls are really smart. I believe they all attend MIT. I believe each can be read as a standalone.

I kinda liked this book. Because it was a novella, it was shorter so everything was more rushed, which I was ok with. The pool aspect was really interesting. I don’t think I have ever read a book dealing with pool. I have to say that I wanted a pool (wink, wink) scene. Unfortunately there was not.

The main character was a little annoying. She was going to make a decision near the end that in my opinion would have been stupid, thankfully the guy convinced her of that and she didn’t do it. Still I didn’t think she should have held a grudge against him for it because it was such a stupid decision.

The girl wasn’t my favorite, but I did like that she was a really intelligent.

The guy was also not my favorite overall, but I liked the idea of him. He is part of a gypsy family and I thought that part was very different. He is also a nomad, which again was different.

Part of the problem I think is that since the story was so short, you don’t get to really connect to the characters. There were also no side, secondary characters. It really was just about the two of them. I think I could have done better with that if it had been done better.

It was fine for a quick read, but didn’t hold my interest like other novellas that I have read.

About Author

I’m addicted to writing. I’ve written 26 romance novels in 25 years, but I just started releasing them in May 2014 because frankly there are some things inside them I wasn’t sure I wanted my daughters to read. The nest is empty, my girls all grown, so now I’m letting loose.

I believe in the adage; Don’t judge a book by it’s cover! Definitely the case with The Girl on the Half Shell. Perfect looking lives are not perfect. We all have our own challenges to overcome! It’s a theme in the books I’ve written and I cover a wide range of contemporary issues in stories ranging from raw and steamy, to gut wrenching, to happy happily ever after.

My first release The Girl on the Half Shell is my most intense novel, the first in the Half Shell Series and the one I had to wait until I had no kids at home to release.

My Perfect Forever Series is definitely happy happily ever after! The first in this line of books was released June 2014 with The Signature.

My soon to be released first novella of the Encounters books, are short, steamy, and fun reads.

And in September I’m starting to release my first in The Deverell Series with When the Perfect Comes, a fast paced, plot twisting historical!

I’ve been in love with the Romance novel since I read my first Kathleen Woodiwiss book, and it seems to me that beyond a steamy fun read, a good romance novel is so much more: it’s women empowering women. We share. We learn.

So about me? I’m as eclectic as my books. A mom. A business owner. A writer of romance. An advocate for clean air and the environment. A wife and an animal lover. The best way to explain me is that once in a talent contest I played classical piano followed by a chopsticks duet with my toes. That pretty much sums up how I’ve lived my life!

What To Read This Weekend…Gage by Tess Oliver

Gage by Tess Oliver

I was so excitedScreen Shot 2014-10-15 at 11.26.53 AM to read this book. I really liked Gage while I was reading the first ‘book’ in the Barringer Brother series, which was actually a serial. I loved that he was basically like a hot lumberjack. That was just different for a character to what I usually read. The cameos by Jericho and our other Barringer brother, Seth, were fun. I am still really curious to see what Tess does with Jericho because at this point she must do something with him! He needs a good woman!

The heroine in this I liked more than I thought I would. Reading the blurb I wasn’t convinced I would like her, but I did. There was still something blocking me from connecting with her completely and still not sure what that was, but I did like her. I was surprised at the backstory with her. I didn’t see it coming and again it was a different type of character in that way which was great. I did hate that she enabled her mom as much as she did. Her mom demands things and she gives them to her without a fight. I wanted her to tell her to shove it sooner and especially not give up part of her inheritance. That really bothered me.

I liked how everything worked out in the end and am excited to see what happens next in the Barringer Brother world. Can’t wait to see the next book!

What to Pre-Order This Week…Atlantia by Ally Condie

Screen Shot 2014-10-17 at 4.08.10 PMFor what to preorder this week I recommend Atlantia by Ally Condie. I got to read a sneak peak off of NetGalley and loved it!

I wasn’t totally sure what to expect from this book. Since this was just a sneak peek it wasn’t very long, but I got hooked! I really liked the story and the characters. The world was slightly confusing at first, but the more I read, the more I understood. It is almost dystopian without being completely dystopian. Also, interesting element is that it has sirens which is different. It really created a mystery that the readers will want to find out about. The world was very unique and I don’t think I have ever read anything similar to it. I love the underwater factor! Very cool! Really curious to see what happens next!

I read the first two Matched books in the Matched trilogy and liked them. This I liked a lot better though.

What I Read This Weekend…Alpha Part 1 by Abby Weeks and Draw Me In by Regina Cole

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

3 stars

This is part of a serial. That means its really short. It also means it ends on a cliffhanger, which sucked as usual. I am curious to see where this is going to go. I really hate rating serials when I have only read one because I think it takes longer to really get into the story. I am interested in knowing more, but now I must wait.

Also I thought it might have something to do with shifters or werewolves because of the title, but it doesn’t which I would have liked to know.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I don’t know if there was really a reason, but this book bored me almost from the beginning. I just did not connect with the characters at all. The girl seemed to be crying a lot and also makes her situation seem hopeless when to me it wasn’t. She finds out she can’t afford to stay in college. Well that’s what loans are for. I had many college loans so I just don’t accept that you wouldn’t take out loans and do what you need to do to stay in college. The guy I thought would be more of a bad boy, but he wasn’t. He was almost more shy and nerdy than anything. I just wasn’t expecting all of that so it threw me off. I have read a lot of books about tattoo artists and this is my least favorite one. It’s not to say it was terrible. It was cute. I just got a little bored because of the cute factor. I just wanted more.

The ‘action’ was also kinda random and seemed out of nowhere. I understand what she was trying to do, but it just threw me off.

It went in my pile of acceptable NA books in the ever growing pile of NA books.

WHAT TO READ THIS WEEKEND…DARKNESS FALLS BY ERIN KELLISON

Darkness Falls by Erin Kellison

Darkness Falls by Erin Kellison

Darkness Falls By Erin Kellison

When this book started out I had my doubts. It was a little confusing. I think a prologue setting up the world would have started the reader in a better place. After a while though as you get a better understanding of the world the book gets better. By the end I had completely positive feelings towards this book. This is an example of a book that I am glad I finished because I would have hated to miss out on it.

The main character is the responsible one and takes better care of her sister than I would. I wouldn’t have been able to put up with some her sisters crap as well as she does. I like responsible characters because that’s how I am so I related to this character a lot.

Our guy was fun. Not my favorite guy, but he did the job of hero well.

I am really excited about the second book. I really enjoyed watching the start of the next couple’s characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens.

Good writing, really imaginative and good plot. 4/5 stars.

But when she lashes out against a billionaire who won’t take no for an answer, she nearly loses everything—until Sebastian steps in. Here is an excerpt from Play Me 1: Wild

Whales belong in the ocean, not in a casino. But in my experience, more often than not, that’s exactly where you find them. Cozied up to a poker table or a craps table or a roulette wheel, sucking down Lagavulin and hassling every pretty girl that walks by.

Then again, I live in Vegas and I work at the Atlantis, currently the hottest casino on the Strip. Where the hell else am I going to see a whale other than right here in my own backyard?

Tonight the place is crawling with them, rich men throwing around thousand dollar chips like confetti and tossing back thousands of dollars’ worth of free liquor the same way. I want to say that it’s an unusual occurrence, but the truth is, this is my life. Has been for a while now.

It’s a different view on this side of the casino from your typical Vegas experience, one filled with ten thousand dollar suits and ten million dollar bets. The air fairly crackles with the sound, the scent, the feel of money. Which translates into much higher tips than working the regular floor does, tips I desperately need. All I have to do to earn them is ignore the fact that the whales on this side of the velvet ropes have much grabbier hands. And an overdeveloped sense of entitlement.

“I need two fingers of Lagavulin, a Belvedere and cranberry, another Nolet’s Reserve and tonic and a shot of Patron Silver,” I tell Michael, tonight’s bartender, as I pick up a dirty martini and a couple of mojitos made with top shelf booze.

He nods, never breaking rhythm as he shakes a margarita in one hand and squirts Coke on top of rum in another.

And then I’m off again, teetering back toward the high roller tables in the four inch stilettos my boss insists all the cocktail waitresses wear. I don’t mind them so much—learning to walk in Louboutins and Manolos was pretty much a required course growing up in my house—but after seven hours straight on my feet, even my steel arches are beginning to whimper.

Which is probably why I’m not at my most patient when Whale Number One, a Japanese businessman who just flew in from Tokyo, rubs a suggestive hand over my ass and down my scantily clad thigh.

I turn around and shoot him a look, and he holds his hands up in a pretend gesture of surrender. “Can I get you anything else?” I ask him, keeping my voice sweet and my eyes steady. It’s my experience that guys like this have trouble keeping up the letch act when they’re looking straight into your eyes. It’s a lesson I learned from my mother years ago: rich men will only give you respect if you demand it.

The full series releases on December 2, 2014!  More details to come later this week!  And don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a chance to win a $25 giftcard to Amazon or Barnes and Noble, plus autographed digital copies of Ruined and Addicted!!!
