What to Read This Weekend…Rivulet by Jamie Magee

Synopsis:

In life he haunted her…in death she haunted him. Love is eternal…

Weeks away from her twenty-first birthday, the date where she would assume control over her family legacy, a night terror robs Indie of the balance she was clinging to. Like the dream she had before she lost her family, it predicts a fatal catastrophe on the horizon. The fight between life and death, good and evil, began the moment her thundering heart awoke her.

Everything changed after that dream. The one thing that keeps her curse at bay is stolen, and then her enigmatic boy arrives in the flesh. Face to face with her fiery born-again lover Indie realizes that the only way she can prevent the tragedy before her is to surrender everything she was, is, and could be.

Can she bend the laws of nature and fight the improbability that fire and ice could ever be one? As far as Indie is concerned, there is not a myth, spoken fate, or curse that is stronger than her stubborn desire to have it all … including him.

Review: I have read a previous work by Jamie Magee, Edge, and really loved it so I was excited to get to read something else from this author. The style of this book was similar to Edge in that it was paranormal, but took it to the extra level. This novel though was so much more confusing to me than her other work. That’s not to say I didn’t like it. I did. It was just very confusing at times.

I think some of my issues were just that some things seemed to move very quickly and I kept having to re-read parts to understand. It seemed like there was a continuation of problems arising and they would then to get pushed aside then more would arise. Indie just kept saying they would deal with everything later and it got a little annoying. Again, it was just really confusing to me. If I read it again, it might make more sense.

I did like this book, I just don’t know if I could tell you why I liked it. I read the entire thing and I wanted to keep reading, mainly because I was hoping some things would be cleared up. The story was also sorely good, its just that I really didn’t get it sometimes. Some parts were confusing on purpose and I get that. I really liked the secondary characters and those relationships. Sebastian and Indie relationship was different and I didn’t like that there really wasn’t a process of showing how they fell in love, just that Indie had seen it over the years. The dual dimensions were confusing. I think by the end of the book there are questions that were answered, but some were not. Hopefully in the sequels more questions will be answered. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3/5 stars!

What to Pre-Order This Week…Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy

SynopsisPerfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—the second novel in New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy’s sizzling series about three powerhouse sisters and the men who would have their hearts.

People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.

Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.

For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.

And maybe I don’t want to.

Review: First I have to say that I love the title. It was very clever since Caden steals things for a living. Rose herself was really struggling to find herself throughout the book and you really got that from her actions and thoughts. Part of the confusion in finding herself also bled into making the story not as good. Then there was Caden. Caden was a bad boy for sure, but not really the kind of bad boy that I like. I admired that he wanted to prove himself before he stayed with Rose. I just didn’t like him as the bad boy he was portrayed as. I just didn’t connect him with who I think Murphy was trying to portray him as. Now I read Owning Violet and loved it. This was not as good to me. I think part of it was that I just didn’t like Rose and Caden as much. Neither as a couple or their story. I still liked it, but I enjoyed the first book more. I enjoyed the story. The pace was a little slow in my opinion. The ending was wonderful though. Murphy’s writing was also up to her the usual excellence that you find in her novels. I am really looking forward to the last book. And I am hoping that there is a good confrontation between the evil witch and the sisters.

With four sisters behind her, Louisa knows she can’t lose. But why does her opponent have to be a divinely handsome scoundrel? And so sweetly, irresistibly seductive…

Review: I really loved this book! I was wanting to read a Regency romance and this proved to be the perfect solution. I really wasn’t sure how Louisa was going to turn out, but in the end she is one of the best Regency era heroines that I have read lately. Bray was also wonderful. He was such a GUY! I loved it! They were a really cute couple! I thought the author did a really great job. The writing was fun and pace was great. I hadn’t read a book by Amelia Grey before, but I will for sure keep an eye out for her books in the future.

No one said love was easy, and for Maddox and Emma it just might be impossible.

This is a Young Adult book. The following books in the series will be New Adult.

*This book is a standalone within a series

Review: This is the first book in Micalea Smeltzer new Willow Creek series. It is YA which I didn’t realize when I got it, but you pick up on that rather quickly since the main character is still in high school. All that being said it is a clean YA novel. No graphic descriptions here. I was a little disappointed at first with the novel. It felt like everything was rather predictable. Now I know when reading YA and NA that to a certain extent everything is predictable, that is why we read them. However, this was the bad kind of predictable. That didn’t last and it became just as well written as previous works that I have read by this author.

I have to say that I loved Emma’s style in this book. It was so quirky and fun and made me wish it was summer so I could wear outfits similar! I really liked that Emma was a gentle soul. She just seemed like such a sweet person and I loved her story. Maddox was fun as well. He had some great one-liners that will make you laugh and therefore people will stare, but its worth it! It really was just one of the sweetest stories I have read in a while.

~It also set up the rest of the series nicely and I can’t wait to read about our other Willow Creek boys~

In the end I found this novel to be just as good as other YA novels. I personally prefer her writing NA and am happy that the rest of the series will be NA. Overall I really enjoyed this novel and I believe it is on sale for 99 cents right now so go pick up your copy now!

What To Pre-Order This Week…Garrett by Sawyer Bennett

My Pre-Order of the Week comes out Feb. 17th! Garrett (Cold Fury Hockey #2) by Sawyer Bennett

Screen Shot 2015-01-23 at 12.59.38 AM

Synopsis:

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

Review: First off I have never read a hockey book before, I don’t watch hockey, and have absolutely no idea how it is played. I have however come to the realization that other women I am sure have come to before me and that is that hockey guys are H.O.T.

I didn’t realize that this was the second book in the series. Now I haven’t read the first one, but the author did a great job that you don’t feel like you missed anything from the first book. Also by the end of this book you know there will be another and I am dying to read that one.

Garrett was very much the playboy. Very typical bad boy/playboy. I really liked Olivia though. Olivia was so cute! From the synopsis I thought she had known for a while that she was sick, but she finds out towards the beginning of the story. You as a reader really go through the process of her being sick with her. Reading the acknowledgments the author really did her research and you could tell that reading the book. I really appreciated that she tried to stay true to the process.

This wasn’t my favorite book that I have read recently, but the characters were cute. The story was really cute. Personally I think that I will like the next one better than I did this one. It was all just a lot sometimes.

One think that was done really well was Garrett stopping his playboy ways. I thought the author really nailed writing that aspect of the story.

Overall I think it flowed pretty well. I just didn’t particularly like this story. I did love the epilogue though! It made it more of a standalone if you wanted it to be!  Still I will be trying other works by this author!

Review

I’m a big fan of K.A. Robinson so I was so excited to receive an ARC of her new novel Consequences of Sin (Thank you Thank you Thank you). This book sounded really interesting and darker than her previous works. Reading the synopsis you know that Bree is a assassin. However she is really bothered by the whole ‘killing’ thing. Enter Wes, or Hot Guy Number 1. Wes is her best friend and known her forever. He is also an assasisn. Bree is about to be abused horribly because of her family so Wes gets her a fake identity and sends her to America. Enter Hot Guy Number 2, Reid, her new roommate.

I really liked the idea that she leaves everything and has to start over with little money and not sure what to do. The whole process of her finding her own footing in a whole other country was written well.

This book seemed a little short to me. There was so much happening that I thought it could have been spread out more. Also I wish she had gotten more time to settle in, like a few months, instead of two weeks before trouble finds her. I also wanted that extra time for Reid and her relationship to develop.

What I did love was Bree’s compassion. There was also a sort-of love triangle, but not really. There was more focus on what Bree needed than the drama of a love triangle which was great! The guys actually ended up getting along, which again is something rarely found when you have a love triangle. This was a book the I did devour in one sitting! I found the story original and overall just another great read by K.A. Robinson!
