What I Read This Weekend…

So meant to put this up yesterday, but got busy! I have decided to put on Mondays what I read for the weekend.

This weekend I read two books. One awesome and one absolutely terrible.

Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 1.21.33 PMThe first is Relinquishing Liberty by Maureen Mayer which I got because it is 99 cents right now. I was really excited about this book because it has been on my wish list for a while now.

Started out really well. Slowly got more annoying, but I was determined to finish, until I couldn’t go on anymore. I went on ahead and read the end (which I NEVER DO) and couldn’t believe it. Don’t want to waste any more time on it so I’m not going to keep going. Read around 30% of the book and glad it was only 99 cents.

The main character was extremely annoying. Also there was a lot of cursing, which I don’t usually mind, but it seemed forceful and unnecessary. Also the main character seemed to get mad so easily and I just wanted her to CALM DOWN. I have read books with annoying female leads and liked them just fine, but that was because the romance was good.

The romance in this was too predictable and easy. He also called her ‘sweetheart’ ALL THE TIME. It always makes me think of guys that can’t remember a girls name if they say it that much.

I have too many books I want to read to waste my time, which is what I felt I was doing every time I picked this one up. I have had it on my wish list for a while so was excited when it went on sale, then was very disappointed. Just thought I would put a warning out there!

Only 1 star.

Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 1.43.19 PMThe second book that I read this weekend is The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. I have wanted to read this book for a while because the movie comes out in a few months. I have found that reading the book a couple months before the movie usually allows me to like both instead of one or the other (usually whichever I read or watched first). Now I am not going to write a long review for this because seeing as how its Nicholas Sparks you can find plenty of reviews of it out there.

Just know that I really enjoyed it. Usually I only cry once (if at all) during a Nicholas Sparks book, but this one caused more tears than any NS book that I have read in a long time. Really good book (notice I said good not great) and I am really excited for the movie which comes out in October.

I can already tell that they changed a lot from the book. The female lead is my least favorite female lead in a NS book though…well its really a tie between the one in Dear John and this one, but I think I like Amanda (from the Best of Me) least. She is just more annoying.

Hated the ending, but knew it was going to happen because its a NS book. Overall worth reading!

Four stars.
